Together In the Tradition
Help us make the Biggest One Day Event in the Dakotas a success! The Hobo Day Committee is seeking to raise funds for the Fantastic Floats Program.
THe Biggest One Day EVENT IN THE DAKOTAS
What one thing unites campus, community, and over 100 years of Jackrabbits? Say it loud: Hobo Day! The 2018 Hobo Day Committee invites you to join "Together in the Tradition" on October 13th. This year's tagline brings to mind a century of football games, hobo-mobiles, campfires, and pots of bum stew - all the things we love to come together for, and have since 1912. Consider your own Hobo Day traditions - from your spot on the parade route, to your favorite tailgate foods, to your official Hobo Day button collection - and how you'll bring your SDSU family together for the Biggest One-Day Event in the Dakotas this year.
Fantastic Floats & HoboMobiles
Since the Centennial Hobo Day Celebration in 2012, the Hobo Day Committee has awarded grants to student organizations that apply to be in the Fantastic Floats Program.
But what makes a float fantastic? A fantastic float is a student organization entry that has been selected to receive money to help boost their float to Rose Parade level. (Well groups aren't exactly using fresh flowers. This is South Dakota in October...) SDSU Student Groups selected to participate in the program are required to attend float-building workshops and order professional-grade materials to improve the overall quality of the parade with their entry.
Fantastic Floats will either take the form of a traditional parade float (pictured above) or may take the more rugged approach of a "hobomobile" (pictured below).
The tradition of hobomobiles has been dusted off in the recent years. A hobomobile is a shanty-like car. Student groups are encouraged to take a normal car and build upon it to make it a supremely hoboic contraption complete with everything and the kitchen sink. (Or other household appliances that aren't bolted down.)
This funding will be vital in helping SDSU student groups to get all the frills for your thrills. We need you, your dog, hobo sisters and brothers to help us make this happen!
Where will the money go?
All money received will proudly make its way down Medary Avenue the morning of October 13 in the Hobo Day Parade. The 2018 Hobo Day Committee seeks to fund 3 hobomobile Fantastic Float entries at $750 each.
$750 will cover one hobomobile.
$1,500 will cover two hobomobiles.
$1,875 will cover two and a half hobomobiles.
$2,250 will cover three hobomobiles.
All dollars add up and help us get to our goal of $2,500! Updates on our project and Hobo Day happenings will be posted on our social media pages posted below.

Help us succeed!
You don't need to give money to help our project succeed. In fact, share it with everyone you know as we think it's a great idea, and the more people who know about it, the more likely we are to make this work out brilliantly. Thank you and we hope you'll come "Together in the Tradition" this Hobo Day!
